Internship Goals

The Liberal Arts Career Development Center is an office that is dedicated to helping Liberal Arts students develop the skills they need to begin a successful career. Located in Beering Hall at Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, the staff strives to plan events and activities that promote professional development and career networking.

The LACD Internship strives to give undergraduate students an opportunity to employ theories of academic learning into a professional setting, while they work on projects that benefit the LACD office. Interns work on projects and tasks that allow them to build new skills, apply the knowledge gained from their major area of study into ‘real world’ projects and explore new career path options.

Interns collaborate to plan and execute a variety of projects including career fairs to guest speaker events and career development focused workshops. They also plan and implement new marketing strategies, gain experience with social networking sites and interact with other Purdue affiliated departments and offices.

The end goal of the internship program is to assist in the transition from academia to the world of work. By the end of the program, students will have identified their own professional strengths as well as specific areas for improvement. They will also have acquired practical experience within their area of expertise. All interns are required to compile a professional portfolio that will aid them in obtaining future career opportunities.
