It's Never Too Soon

It's only been a few weeks since the school semester started and it's been a whirlwind. As a senior I'm as busy as ever with projects, classes, work and this LACD internship. Having this busy schedule has not made me forget the most important thing I should be focusing on, finding a job after graduation job. May might seem a million months away at the moment but before we know it we'll be walking across the stage to receive our diplomas and straight into the real world.
I want to take this moment to urge everyone to start job searching now even though it might seem too soon. There are lots of career fairs on campus during the semester as well as Career Week in the fall. This is the time to look to our futures and make plans. I know all I want to do is pretend like graduation isn't going to happen and I'm just going to stay in college forever but that's not going to benefit me in the future. Use all the resources you have at your disposal. LinkedIn is a great way to search for jobs as well as get in touch with companies you might have an interest in. The CCO has several great resources and they'll even critique your resume for you. The LACD Professional Pathways newsletter sent out every month always has tons of internship and job opportunities listed as well as callout dates for career fairs. These are just a few things you can begin doing to prepare for life after college. It's never too soon and you certainly don't have to be a senior to start using these resources.
I encourage everyone to seriously start thinking about your plan of action for the following school year. The time is now!
