Utilizing the LACD website

By: Kathryn Travis

The Liberal Arts Career Development office would like to welcome you back to campus. We are excited about the many opportunities the spring semester offers in terms of Career Development. The LACD website is an excellent tool that often goes unused. Below we have highlighted a few of the tools you can utilize as you explore career and internship opportunities.

Career Management Handbooks
Our career handbook is your one-stop source for graduate school, job search, and professional development advice. This handbook is written by LACD Director, Lisa Lambert Snodgrass and is available to you for free. Download your PDF copy here. Also on our front page is the National Association of Colleges and Employers Newsletter - Job Choices. Inside you will find the latest on career advice including resume and interview tips, links to employer websites, and more.

Career Week
Mark your calendars for our annual Career Week. We have 16 career advice events planned over the four day period from February 25th through the 28th. We will bust myths about Liberal Arts graduates, listen to short informational talks from local entrepreneurs, and learn some job search basics. On Wednesday students will have the opportunity to participate in resume reviews and mock interviews with employers. Thursday we will end with our Career Expo from 11am to 3pm. These events are must attends for any major who is looking to get a job after graduation.

Job and Internship of the Month
One of the responsibilities of the LACD office is to keep students informed of job and internship opportunities. Internships are so important to your job search success and students often don't take advantage of them. On the front page we highlight one job and internship of the month. We also work hard to keep our website up to date with the latest internships across the country. Be sure to check out the listings here.

Newsletter
Each month LACD interns work hard to create a newsletter that is relevant to the students in the College of Liberal Arts. These newsletters are sent to your inbox each month or you can find them on the front page of our website. One of our favorite sections is the Featured Alumni interview with a recent Purdue CLA graduate. Check out last month's alumnus, Kelly Ryan, who graduated with a BA in Law and Society and works locally in probation. Click here to read more.

Resume Reviews
Need to update your resume for a career fair or an interview? Don't just tweak it, let LACD Peer Partners critique it! Free resume reviews take place Monday through Thursday in BRNG 1114. You can view a schedule and read more about the Peer Partners here.

Liberal Arts Career Development (LACD) is located in BRNG 1114 as part of the Liberal Arts Advising and Career Development Office. It is our mission to assist Liberal Arts students with clarifying career interests, seeking out job, internship or professional experience opportunities, writing resumes and cover letters, developing portfolios, learning about interviewing skills and researching graduate and professional schools.
