Stay Focused and Career Driven

by Alex Bolten

Thanksgiving break ended this past Monday, and there are only 2 more weeks of classes and then finals before Holiday Break. Now, before you celebrate prematurely, you should remember that there’s still work to do. It’s been a long semester, but that doesn’t mean that you should slow down now!

There are many projects and last-minute things that are popping up at this point in the semester. It’s easy to get caught up in everything that’s going on and feel stressed or overwhelmed. It can also be really easy to lose focus on your post-graduation goals.

While this may be the case, you need to make sure that you’re still thinking about your future career goals. While it may be nice to skip class since there are only 2 weeks left, think about what could happen. You might miss some valuable information that will be on your final exam. You won’t do as well, and your grade and GPA could suffer as a result.

When you get a career, will you have the option to slow down or quit or become lazy when the going gets tough? The answer is “no.” If you’re not going to be able to quit in the future, then why should you quit now? You’ll only be letting yourself down if you do. Giving up now could just lead you to lose your drive for a better career. If you lose that drive, then it will only be more difficult for you to become successful.

You should be excited that the semester is nearly over, and that your hard work for the last several weeks is almost complete, but you shouldn’t lose your drive. You began and/or developed career goals at the beginning of the semester. You’ve worked hard all semester. Don’t give up now!
