Time Management

When I came to college, I steadily mastered the skill of over committing. My first semester began with minimal involvement on campus outside of my classes, but when I decided to join my sorority, I also decided to simultaneously dive into a variety of volunteer opportunities and plans with my friends. But hey, that’s what college is for, right? Getting involved…

The past three weeks of my senior year have been busy, to say the least, with the lowest number of hours of sleep I have ever endured. It is so easy to forget that we came to Purdue for an education. That may sound crazy to some, but when your passion for other activities grows the way my passions have grown, putting those Blackboard quizzes and reading each chapter for your COM class finds its spot on the backburner. I previously mentioned my talent of overcommitting, but, with time, I have learned to fine tune my life in a way that “overcommitting” is no longer an issue of mine, rather I refer to it as “balancing.”

Thankfully, I have learned to manage what seemed impossible freshman and sophomore year.  At the end of the first semester of my senior year, I will have fulfilled my responsibilities as a position holder in my sorority, a team member of my internship, a campus brand representative for a major company, and a rep for a very fast growing online publishing, all while keeping my GPA at a score I am personally proud of. What may seem like a small accomplishment to some, already feels so rewarding to me. My education does come first, and I fully believe my involvement elsewhere on campus has contributed to my success in my classes. I have learned to time manage well, stay connected, and meet many inspiring individuals, all thanks to making the decision to make Purdue more than a classroom.
