Benefits of an Internship

You see it on every job opening post: "2+ years experience required." You may think to yourself, "two years?! I'm still in college. How am I supposed to get experience?" That's where the first benefit of an internship comes into play.

The experience you gain from an internship goes beyond what you expect. Before entering my current internship, my expectation was to learn a handful of things, but stay locked to one project for the entirety of the year. I couldn't have been more wrong. Since June, I've managed multiple projects while assisting others with theirs. I've obtained new vital skills for my future endeavors while sharpening ones I haven't used in a while.

Benefit number two would be the connections you make. Since I began interning with LACD this past summer, I have met numerous people I may have never connected with otherwise. Upon managing our Fall Career Fair in September, I had the honor of introducing myself to 50+ companies' reps. That's at least 100 professionals! Making and maintaining professional connections is extremely important and can assist you in your future.

The most important benefit to me? My team.
The LACD team is compiled of amazing individuals. I've never met another group of people so willing to help others and provide positive/constructive feedback. Without this team, hosting an entire career fair and putting together numerous events wouldn't have happened as successfully as it did. I'm extremely thankful for them along with the friendships and connections I've made with them.

Although gaining experience from an internship is a huge benefit, it's not the only one you'll receive! You'll be amazed with all of the great things surrounding you.
